Singing is more than just a "talent" that some possess in greater measures than others. Singing is a skill, a skill that can be learnt, improving the quality of vocal tone, ease of voice production, range of notes that can be utilised, and much more. Singing is a motor skill: just as you can improve your tennis, typing, swimming or learn to play a musical instrument, you can also learn to better use your muscle coordination to improve your singing. The more you practice the new skills, the better you get at applying them under pressure (ie. performing). My aim is to teach you how your voice works and give you a tool kit of techniques to safely and effectively sing the music that inspires you.

There are many teachers that still teach that there is only "one technique" for singing and only one way to sing. This is simply not true, and has been disproven by research into they way in which the vocal mechanism (larnyx, tongue, mouth, breath) are used to create different vocal qualities. Many of us were also taught that certain styles of singing are "dangerous" and should be avoided; thankfully this is also false, and with the correct muscle techniques all styles can be achieved safely and effectively.

I have studied and taught singing for over 22 years, and in that time both sung and taught a large variety of musical and vocal styles including musical theatre, opera, pop and jazz. I have always made it a priority to sing these styles with stylistic authenticity (not many people want to hear their jazz sung in an operatic tone!). To do that I have studied and applied the different physical vocal techniques required to create the most effective sound for each style whilst staying authentic to my own voice at all times.
